Paris, the city of dreams
Paris is undoubtedly one of the most visited cities in the world, and also one of the most romantic. Why ? As always, how it creates that romantic ambience is difficult o explain, but we try.
Firstly, the French culture. Call it chivalry or chauvinism, it involves tipping your hat at a beautiful lady, holding the door for her, holding the chair for her. It’s all in making her feel important.
Secondly, immaculate appearance. The French, especially the Parisiennes, do make every effort to look spectacular and perfectly groomed, with not a single hair out of place. When people look that good, it’s hard not to admire.
Then there’s the food. Paris has a dearth of Michelin starred restaurants, and any chef worth his salt will be able to tell you, food must be prepared just so, to an exacting degree. With the attention that goes into the preparation, it’s no surprise the food looks and tastes that good. And when food tastes that good, and the dessert that sweet, it does set the mood for romance.
Then there’s the Seine. The river that runs through Paris, along which every visitor must take a boat ride, and have dinner beside, if only just to admire Paris skyline by night.
Then there’s the fabulous french wines, whether you prefer a chardonnay, a bordeaux, a merlot, or even my favourite riesling, there’s good wines a-plenty. And wine is as good as any other for getting her into the mood. Dom Perignon has never failed yet.
So if you’re really looking to splash out on a romantic holiday, bring her to the Paris Ritz, dinner at Alain Ducasse’s flagship restaurant along the Champs Elysee, and while you’re at it, have a 4 carat sapphire-cut platinum set diamond ready in your pocket, for you don’t know where the mood will take you.
